MANILA, Philippines – After confirming Miss Universe 2017 coronation night will be held in the country, the Department of Tourism said the prestigious pageant will still be hosted by Steve Harvey.
DOT chief Wanda Teo said Harvey will remain as the host despite opposition from President Rodrigo Duterte. She earlier said Harvey has a five-year contract with organizers of the Miss Universe pageant.
It can be recalled that Harvey drew Flak after announcing Miss Colombia as winner in the Miss Universe 2016 coronation night. Philippine bet Pia Wurtzbach later on took home the crown.
Teo said she has yet to talk to the Miss Universe organization regarding the possibility that Harvey may have a Filipino co-host during the coronation night.
Likewise, Teo said Duterte is also happy that the pageant will push through in the country.
“He (Duterte) is happy. Sabi niya sa akin, o ‘yung Miss Universe ha tuloy na tuloy na… everbody is happy,” Teo narrated.
The tourism chief also revealed that performers during the coronation night include artists from the United States with Filipino blood.
Asked if Bruno Mars is among the performers, Teo said she has yet to confirm as the roster is still a secret.
Teo reiterated that the country will not spend anything for the pageant citing it was her promise to the president. She said the constestants will be able to see the beautiful places in the Philippines.
The Miss Universe 2017 coronation night would be held at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay on Jan. 30, 2017.
